SCI-MHVAC-CASE-003

Corrosion and Leak Assessment

Sunseeker 73 ft | Dometic three-chiller chilled-water system

Technical evidence from the inspection
Strip inspection and leak confirmation required

ASSESSMENT

Saltwater exposure, advanced corrosion, condenser fouling and suspected refrigerant leakage affected several connected systems. The inspection defined what could be serviced in place and what required controlled removal.

The correct next step was containment and confirmation: control the saltwater source, remove the most damaged chiller for inspection, and leak-test the remaining circuits before any recharge or repair-versus-replacement decision.

INSPECTION SCOPE

What was checked

  1. 01Visual and operational review of three chiller circuits
  2. 02Leak evidence, pressure indication and saltwater contamination
  3. 03Seawater and freshwater pumps, hoses, clamps and leakage points
  4. 04Accessible fan-coil units, filters, coils, blowers and airflow

FIELD EVIDENCE

What the inspection showed

  • Salt deposits and corrosion extended across multiple independent components.
  • Marine growth in the condenser circuit reduced heat-transfer capability.
  • Two circuits showed very low recorded pressure and required controlled leak testing.
  • Air-side fouling and evaporator corrosion independently explained weak airflow and poor cooling.
